Think Outside The Box To Move Green

Whether you're moving this month or next year, down the street or across the nation, here are a few tips you can incorporate into your move to go green:

Instead of bubble wrap, consider using newspaper, which is cheaper, readily available and recyclable.


Creatively pack fragile items wrapped in towels, blankets, t-shirts and other cloth items that are also being moved to the new location.


Pad items with pillows that are already on the to-be-packed list.


Use the Freecycle.org community to find free, clean, reusable cardboard moving boxes.


At your new location, pass along your moving boxes to another family in transition through the Freecycle network or word of mouth.


Rent moving materials. Some green-minded companies rent reusable plastic crates.


Purchase plastic storage containers to move items and use for storage at your new home.
